Hi, I’m Sarah! I recently moved to Boulder, Colorado to pursue a graduate degree in art therapy at Naropa University. I consider myself a social practice artist and my passion for mental health comes through in everything I make. For my BFA thesis exhibition at the University of Louisville, I made portraits with untrained collaborators to explore art’s ability to facilitate social support and communication. I have painted seven collaborative, community-based murals. I also worked for five years as an art instructor and program coordinator at the Steam Exchange, a community arts organization in the Smoketown neighborhood of Louisville, Kentucky. There I worked with children to paint murals, assemble mosaics, bind book, sew stuffed animals, and screenprint . I also taught art classes to students around Louisville as an artist-in-residence at the Kentucky Museum of Arts and Crafts and as an instructor at the Olmsted Girls Art Project. All the work I do is centered around social engagement, and I plan to augment my understanding of that as I continue my education in art therapy.
